No. 4: Casa RIA
Introduction
This building serves as the new headquarters of Fundación RIA, an independent consulting firm and nonprofit organization founded by architect David Chipperfield in 2017 to promote sustainable development and quality of life in the region of Galicia, in northwestern Spain. The building provides a dynamic space to expand Fundación RIA’s interdisciplinary conversations and research throughout Galicia and beyond.
Casa RIA hosts a program of events, workshops, conferences, and public exhibitions related to the work of Fundación RIA, including urban planning, sustainable land management, and design culture. This space, a former nursing hospital restored and renovated by David Chipperfield Architects Santiago, also provides educational facilities and accommodations to support research residencies for up to 20 researchers or students, in collaboration with leading global academic institutions.
The building also houses the offices of David Chipperfield Architects Santiago, which provides operational support and resources for the work of Fundación RIA. To foster community development, Casa RIA also offers exhibition and conference spaces to promote community initiatives, serving as a venue to showcase Galician activities and a platform for sharing local knowledge.

Holocene No. 2: David Chipperfield
While the polished brass of Holocene No. 2 pays homage to the classic oil lamp, its structure offers a more creative and interactive approach. Running along the circumference of the round base—where the lamp oil is stored—are two curved reflectors that slide smoothly. Holocene No. 2: David Chipperfield was created in collaboration with British architect David Chipperfield.
Holocene No. 5: David Chipperfield
Holocene No. 5: David Chipperfield explores the fascinating interplay of reflected light, as well as the concept of a simple piece that can be used in a variety of ways. It employs the time-honored technique of combining wall sconces with mirrors to enhance light reflection—here, a striking version that is both modern and timeless enough for any setting. Holocene No. 5: David Chipperfield was created in collaboration with British architect David Chipperfield.
