In collaboration with lighting designer Sarunas Noskaitis from Energy Green and under the project management of Povilas Klimas, ewo was tasked with installing a new lighting system for Soboras Church in the city of Kaunas, Lithuania.

The client did not have specific design requirements but emphasized the importance of aesthetically pleasing results while adhering to heritage preservation and lighting regulations. ewo and its partners have taken on the task of not only enhancing the beauty of the structure with a new lighting system but also reducing glare and minimizing stray light, ensuring visual comfort and safety for visitors to this public space.

Creative freedom enabled ewo and its partners to develop an innovative and unique lighting concept, which was then refined following initial on-site lighting tests and feedback from project stakeholders. Ultimately, this process ensured that Soboras Church received a lighting system that fully met the project’s vision and requirements.

All lights are equipped with DALI controllers and can therefore be controlled and customized. Lighting scenes for both the facade and the exterior have been pre-programmed to highlight the church’s most beautiful features. This lighting system has also been integrated into the city’s smart city network, ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency.

"For us, the project was a significant and challenging undertaking from the very beginning—if only because of its scale and cultural significance, as Soboras Church is one of the most important buildings in the city of Kaunas," said Saša Pajdić, Sales Director for Central and Eastern Europe at ewo. "The lighting design is tasked with highlighting the architectural value. The project also requires a balance between aesthetics and functionality—on the one hand, the lighting system must be energy-efficient, and on the other, it must have a positive impact on visitors."

The client was very satisfied with the project implementation process and the final result—the ease of controlling and managing the lighting, a standout feature of the ewo product, was particularly impressive.
