Birmingham boasts a strong industrial heritage, clearly reflected in the design and aesthetics of the new headquarters of the ARUP Multinational Group, and reinforced by the lighting design concept. The design requirement was to create sustainable, flexible, and inspiring office spaces that meet the needs of the people who work here, both now and in the future.

Preserving Identity

The building is situated directly above a traffic tunnel, which was also constructed by ARUP 55 years ago to serve as a major transportation artery. This exceptionally unique location shaped the building’s design concept and steel structure. The idea that engineering defines architecture is evident in the steel frames visible from every angle of the building. The XAL MOVE IT 25/45 track lighting system continues this design language and further emphasizes the aesthetic with a strong technical flair. This concept was intentionally highlighted in the interior design to create an original and technologically distinctive design. The lighting design was implemented according to this philosophy and developed consistently using a modular approach.

Value in lighting

An office for creative designers and engineers.

An investment in mental and physical well-being.

A harmonious design.
